The Difference Between Fear And Anxiety
It is helpful if we can distinguish the difference between fear and anxiety, although the two of these emotions use the fight or flight response. Fear is the feeling of being in danger here and now, and anxiety is the feeling of possibly being in danger in the future.
To give though about primitive human emotions that triggered these physical and metal experiences, lets imagine a saber tooth tiger attacking someone who only has a stick to protect himself. How do you imagine that person feeling when facing a possible death sentence? Or even if he survived, do you think he felt fear that he might have this happen in the future? The common answer to this is yes, because i know i would feel very scared in this situation.
Lets imagine a more modern scenario, you are driving in an icy road and suddenly your car starts to get out of control, it skids until you manage to take control of the wheel. I’m pretty sure you would remember feeling horrible anxiety in that moment, even just thinking about it brings anxiety on.
Anxiety is your mind preparing your self for possible dangers that might arise in the future. Is you suffer from some kind of anxiety disorder, you are experiencing the same feelings that reflect the fight or flight response, which is telling you that danger is at hand. When your anxiety is diagnosed as a disorder, you are experiencing fear without actually being in danger, there is no bear around the corner or a spinning out of control car.
Is you are experiencing anxiety without actually being in danger you probably have an anxiety disorder. If you are experiencing fear when leaving the house, on on your drive to work or even at a shopping mall then you might have an anxiety disorder.
